Grozny is the capital of the Chechen Republic and a city with a unique history and traditions.
In 1818, during the conquest of the North Caucasus, General Alexey Yermolov founded a fortress called ‘Groznaya’, around which Chechen villages eventually appeared. In 1870, the Groznaya fortress was granted the status of a city. Modern Grozny is a major industrial, cultural, and scientific hub of the North Caucasus.
The city is known for its magnificent architecture, entertaining museum programmes, parks, and historical and cultural monuments. Grozny has its own business centre, Grozny City, which consists of seven skyscrapers that symbolise the region’s economic potential and rapid development, and also serve as one of the city’s most striking decorative features.
Grozny is the pearl of the North Caucasus and has an amazing atmosphere that combines historical heritage and the spirit of modernity. The city greets each guest at the highest level. The hospitality of residents is one of the unique features of the Chechen Republic, as evidenced by the consistently high flow of tourists to the region.

The city is home to such attractions as the Heart of Chechnya Mosque, the Triumphal Arch, the Stairway to Heaven observation deck, People’s Friendship Square, the Museum of the Chechen Republic, the City of Military Glory stele, Grozny City, the Flower Park, and much more.
Grozny is also famous for its rich cultural life, including festivals, opera and ballet performances, classical and local music concerts, exhibitions, and other events.
Heart of Chechnya Mosque
One of the largest mosques not only in Russia, but throughout the world. Its interior is adorned with paintings and traditional Chechen ornaments. Patterns and texts from the Koran were made using gold plating of the highest standard.

Grozny City with its seven skyscrapers is the hallmark of Grozny. The business centre’s tallest building is the 40-storey Phoenix, which is home to Russia’s largest round clock, as well as an observation deck.

The museum’s exhibits include archaeological finds, household items, national costumes, coins, military attributes, ancient weapons, as well as paintings, sculptures, and other works of art.

Weather in Grozny
Grozny has a warm temperate climate. The average temperature in the middle of July can range from +25°С to +35°С. However, at night, the temperature can drop to +15°C. A sudden weather change is possible, so we recommend to participants to bring warm clothing and an umbrella because of the possibility of rainy weather.
Electricity (socket types)
The voltage of Russia’s electrical network is 220 V (50–60 Hz). Socket types C and F are common. If you plan to bring electrical appliances that require higher voltage, or you might need a different type of socket, we recommend taking an adapter on your trip.
