Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov chaired a meeting in Grozny to discuss the organization and holding of the Caucasus Investment Forum. Participants assessed the readiness of the venue and business programme, scheduled to kick off on 15–17 July in the Chechen capital.
Upwards of 2,000 guests from 33 countries are expected to attend the Caucasus Investment Forum, in light of which meeting participants gathered to discuss the readiness of venue infrastructure. The Minister of Economic Development led a delegation to the residence of the Head of the Chechen Republic and the Stroykar Pavilion Exhibition Centre (EXPO), where the main programme events will take place.
“The President and the Government continue to look to the North Caucasus with particular interest. It is a district that has traditionally enjoyed certain competitive advantages for the agro-industry, logistics, and tourism that we need to harness for economic growth. This will happen through private investment, and it’s a big reason why we’re organizing the Caucasus Investment Forum,” Reshetnikov said.
According to the Minister, the North Caucasus Federal District has worked hard to make itself more accessible and attractive to investors. The business climate has changed, new types of support have appeared, and trust has grown between business and the state.
“First of all, we must create more job opportunities and a more favourable business climate in the region, and that’s why we attach such great importance to the upcoming Caucasus Investment Forum. I have no doubt that an event of this significance will affect the economy of the entire country and prove the ideal place to establish partnerships and implement new projects,” Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov said.
Meeting participants assessed the readiness of site infrastructure and discussed issues surrounding transport accessibility, the availability of accommodations, the quality of mobile communications, the business programme itself, the construction of stands at the exhibition centre, and the readiness of the airport to receive Forum participants. The Government of the Chechen Republic took the decision to increase the number of flights arriving during the Forum, and airlines have upgraded aircraft for greater capacity and additional flights.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Sergey Nazarov spoke about the Forum business programme and organizational issues, reporting that 256 applications from 42 Russian regions had already applied to vie for the Vershina (Apex) Investment Award, including representatives of St. Petersburg, Moscow, Tyumen Region, the Chechen Republic, the Krasnoyarsk and Stavropol Territories, Kabardino-Balkaria, Dagestan, Adygea, and Rostov Region among others.
Meeting participants also discussed the organization of the Forum youth programme, with Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the Caucasus Investment Forum Vladimir Zatynaiko reporting on its readiness.
“The range of business and cultural events planned for this year’s CIF programme is truly impressive and will showcase the region’s versatility, openness, and hospitality. 20 plus events have been planned for the more than 1,000 young, ambitious, bright, creative participants expected to attend the youth programme. Guests can expect traditional panel discussions, high-profile speakers, and unique educational laboratories in four creative areas: spatial development, media, robotics, and entrepreneurship,” he said.
The Roscongress Foundation is organizing the Forum with the support of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
